Want a fun way to get clutter-free?

Why not make a game of it! Hand out shopping bags to everyone in your household and give them 15 minutes to collect one of the following items:

  • Newspapers older than two days,
  • magazines older than two months,
  • grocery receipts,
  • clothes that haven’t been worn in a year and
  • anything that looks like garbage (check your purse, kitchen drawers etc.).

The winner is the person who collects the most things; be sure to decide on a treat for the winner before you start the scavenger hunt!

What should you do with the treasures you collect? Recycle or donate what you can; the rest should be put out on garbage day. Play as often as you like to keep your home organized and clear of clutter!

A place for everything, and everything in its place!

In a well-organized home, everything has its place. But how do you decide on the best place to store items and keep your home clutter-free? Here are a few helpful tips from Open Space to consider:

Proximity: Keep things handy to the place in your home where you use them. For example, it’s better to store bed sheets under the bed than in a linen closet down the hall.

Accessibility: Make sure anything you store is easily accessible. For example, avoid hanging layers of clothes on one hanger.

Frequency: Store the things you use the most front and centre. For example, seasonal or rarely used items should be placed at the back of a cupboard.

Sometimes, the logical place isn’t the best place, so keep your eyes and mind open to any imaginative solutions that fit with your lifestyle.
